Frequently Asked Questions
- What is your style of shooting during the wedding day?
I'm very laid back and just go with the flow of the day. My philosophy is that the photographer leads and I follow. Every once in a while I might yell out, "Kiss!", or “Cheers!” or something to trigger a reaction, but 95% of the time I just capture whatever is going on, as it's going on. I try to focus on the moments "in between" the pictures, when you're just being yourselves and not smiling for the camera, but rather smiling for each other.
I’m rarely recording for long stretches. Instead, I capture quick, intentional clips of the moments that matter most. A laugh here. A glance there. A hug, a tear, a deep breath.
It’s not about documenting every second. It’s about telling your story, one moment at a time. All of these small moments are then carefully woven together into a highlight film.
- What is a highlight film?
A highlight film is a 4-7 minute (length depending on package) cinematic retelling of your wedding day. My goal when creating your highlight film is simple: I want you (and anyone watching) to feel like you are there again, experiencing the joy and the emotion and all the moments in between. Depending on your personality and the vibe of your wedding day, your highlight film might be more emotional, or it might be more of a party. I don’t plan out anything ahead of time with my edits, so it really just depends on how each day goes.
Regardless, every couple I've worked with has told me the same thing after delivery:
Their highlight film became the most cherished keepsake from the day.
More than the dried up flowers and rented decorations.
More than the guestbook and printed invitations.
More than the napkins and the little details that everyone forgets.
Even more than the photographs.
Because while everything else fades or gets packed away, the film brings it all back exactly how it felt. The reaction of seeing each other for the first time. The feeling of walking down the aisle. The first dance. The memorable words from loved ones. The shared laughs and tears with friends and family.
That’s what a highlight film brings back to you.
- Do we meet before booking with you?
I'd be more than happy to hop on a super casual Zoom meeting and chat with you about any questions you have, and also to make you feel confident that I'm not some Russian bot trying to steal your money. ;-)
That said, some brides/couples don't care to meet with me before booking, and that's totally fine too — I'm not here to pressure anybody into anything they don’t want/need. You just let me know if it's something you want, or if you just want to get the contract done via email communication and wait to meet before the wedding.
At a minimum, I always have a meeting with couples before the wedding. I set that up a few weeks before your wedding so we can get to know each other a bit more. I'm up for however many meetings you want to have with me. I will say though, my philosophy is that the photographer leads and I follow, so I defer the initial timeline planning, etc. to the photographer. Photographers love working with me because I go with whatever the day looks like, and never ask for anything special.
- What is your average turn around time for final delivery?
Typically around 2 months — sometimes sooner, sometimes a little longer. 120 days is the maximum written into the contract.
- How do you capture audio during the ceremony and speeches?
Ceremony: I hook up an audio recorder directly to whatever speaker system is being used. I also put a lavalier (tiny, clip-on) microphone on the officiant. I also put a lavalier mic on the groom. I never put mic on the bride because I personally believe it's too invasive and unnecessary.
First Looks: I put a lavalier mic on the groom/father of bride/etc. during "first looks".
I don't leave any mics on anyone throughout the entire day, because I don't want anyone to feel like they are being "listened to" all day.
Speeches: I hook up an audio recorder directly to the DJ's system (our house speaker system) to capture clean audio. I also try to attach a backup mini recorder directly to the microphone used for speeches.
- What does the payment structure look like?
After everyone signs the contract, I send an invoice for the $500 deposit/retainer to book the date, and then the rest of the payment is due 10 days prior to the wedding.
- I'm on the fence between package 2 and package 3, or I'm not sure if the coverage hours are enough. What should I do?
Happens a lot. Package 2 is the most popular package. If you're on the fence between package 2 and package 3, we can just fill out the contract for package 2 and pay the deposit to lock in your date. Then, closer to the wedding, if you get a better grasp on your timeline and realize you need to add on an hour or two, or upgrade to package 3, just let me know and we can easily add it onto the total. Not a problem at all.
